Search Mounted For Darien Bank Robber: Police

The robbery occurred Monday afternoon.

DARIEN, CT — Police are searching for a bank robber who hit a Chase Bank at 454 Post Road in Darien Monday afternoon, according to officials.

No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported in the 3:35 p.m. robbery, but an as yet undetermined amount of cash was stolen.

"A subject, described below, walked into the bank and passed a note to a female teller demanding money," wrote Darien police in a statement. "No weapon was displayed nor was any threat made. The subject left that bank after a teller did give the subject cash from the teller drawer. The exact amount of the loss is still being tallied and is not certain as of the time of this release."

Seven employees were in the bank at the time of the robbery, in addition to one patron. No threats were made toward any people in the bank.

The suspect, seen in the above surveillance photos, is described as:

  • A black male
  • 5’ 9” to 6’0” tall
  • In his late twenties to early thirties
  • Heavy set with a beard
  • Wearing a dark colored ball cap, dark colored oversized patterned shirt and baggy pants, possibly gray or beige

Additionally, the suspect was described as having "tribal" design tattoos on his left hand and on his face.

"The possibility exists that these tattoos could have been temporary and part of an attempt to conceal facial features," said police.

The suspect drove off in a white car, believed to be a Toyota Camry, with orange NY state license plates.

"The vehicle was last observed exiting the parking lot and traveling [eastbound] on the Boston Post Road," said police.

Darien Police Detectives are actively investigating the bank robbery and have contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Any persons with potential information on this subject or vehicle are requested to call the Darien Police Department Detective Division at (203) 662-5330."
