Serial Car Burglar Suspect Charged: Darien Police

He was arrested by New Canaan police as well.

DARIEN, CT—A A New Milford man was arrested after he tried to enter parked cars in Waveny Park Nov. 16, police said.

Police got a report of a man trying to enter cars around 4:05 p.m. Officers located Scott Palmenta, 45, and he was taken into custody.

"Palmenta did not appear to have actually entered any vehicles," said Lt. Jason Ferraro, police spokesman.
Darien, Newtown and New York State Police are all investigating car burglary incidents that possibly involved Palmenta, Ferraro said.

New Canaan Police charged him with criminal attempt at third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. Darien Police then took him into custody and charged him with third-degree burglary for an incident, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., Darien Police spokesman.

Police are exploring the possibility that he was involved in other incidents as well.

In the Darien incident Palmenta entered a car parked at McGuane Field on Nov. 16.

"At one point while on the playground, the victim looked over toward her vehicle and observed that the passenger side front door was open. She then observed a subject inside her vehicle at which time she yelled out to him and confronted him. The subject claimed that he was not inside her vehicle, but instead was “only leaning on the car.” Nothing was removed from the vehicle. The victim did not immediately contact this agency because she was unsure of what to do however she did take a photo of the subject and took note of the license plate on his vehicle. The victim then came to police headquarters approximately twenty minutes later."
