‘Severe Weather’ Expected in CT Saturday: Latest Update

If you’ve got outdoor plans Saturday afternoon and early evening in Connecticut, the latest forecast update doesn’t offer the best news.

The entire state is under a "Hazardous Weather Outlook," which has been issued by the National Weather Service.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan posted on social media Saturday morning that “Severe weather expected across the state this afternoon with the strongest storms producing gusty wind, hail, and lots of lightning. We'll keep you posted all day long!”

Based on the National Weather Service’s advisories it appears the biggest threat for severe weather is in northern Connecticut including Tolland and Hartford counties where a "Special Weather Statement" has been issued for the chance of some severe weather Saturday.

Here is the latest information on the stormy weather and the timing of the storms via the National Weather Service.

Southern Connecticut: There is a chance of severe thunderstorms today mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours. The main threat is locally damaging straight line winds. Temps will be near 90 degrees. The greatest chance for showers and storms is likely after 12 p.m. and up until 6 p.m.

Hartford and Tolland counties: Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall are likely between noon and 7 p.m. The primary risk with these storms will be locally strong to damaging straight line wind gusts. Heavy rainfall and some flooding is also a concern. Also dangerous cloud to ground lightning is also expected with these storms, the weather service states.

Once we get past Saturday’s unsettled weather, Sunday is a perfect summer day, bright sunshine and temps into the upper 80s.
