Sibling War Heroes From Darien To Be Honored
Town to unveil veterans street sign Sunday paying homage to the Morehouse brothers of World War II.
DARIEN, CT — The Darien Monuments and Ceremonies Commission invites the public to attend the unveiling of a Wartime Veterans Street Sign to honor war hero brothers Philip A. Morehouse and Alan R. Morehouse.
The event is Sunday, May 29, at noon on Noroton Avenue in front of the Fitch Home for Soldiers Memorial. Parking is available behind Noroton Heights Firehouse.
The brothers fought together in World War II.

Alan Morehouse lost his life during D-Day, June 6, 1944. Philip Morehouse came back to Darien and lived and served his community and nation for the rest of his life.
A ceremony to honor these two men will take place. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Alan R. Morehouse, a lifelong resident and a teacher in Darien, was called to active duty in February 1942.
Wounded during fierce battles with the German Afrika Korps in Tunisia, he refused to leave his company.
Alan Morehouse also served in Sicily, and after promotion to Captain, he led the First Infantry Division at the landing on Omaha Beach.
He chose to fight with the 1st Division because he knew that his brother, Philip Morehouse was there.
Alan Morehouse was among the first to be killed in action under intense fire on D-Day.
He received a Purple Heart for wounds in Tunisia and a Silver Star (posthumously) for Gallantry in Action.
Philip A. Morehouse, also a lifelong Darien resident, entered the Army in July 1940, assigned to the 18th Infantry Regiment of the First Infantry Division, the famed "Big Red One."
He served from July 1940 to July 1945 and received a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.
Philip Morehouse was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1948.
He was associated in the practice of law with Walton Clark Jr., then Darien's probate judge.
In 1950, he joined the law firm of Cummings and Lockwood in the Darien Office until he resigned in 1980.
Philip Morehouse continued his military service in the U.S. Army Reserves and was Judge Advocate of the 76th Infantry Division in Hartford until 1961, when he retired as a lieutenant colonel.
Philip Morehouse was a member of the First Congregational Church of Darien, Kiwanis Club of Darien, Darien Monuments and Ceremonies Commission, 150th Anniversary of the Town of Darien Committee, First Infantry Division Foundation, Spring Grove Cemetery Association, Senior Men's Association, Darien Housing Authority, Middlesex Genealogical Society, Darien Free Library Association, Post 6933 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., Sons of the American Revolution, Connecticut Society of Mayflower Descendants, American Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association.
