Connecticut Weather Forecast: Snow Now Falling, Likely to Impact Monday's Commute

It was supposed to be snowing already but the National Weather Service says snow is still on its way Sunday. We'll let you know when.

UPDATE 11 P.M.

It looks like we’ll have an accurate snowfall estimate for this tricky and complicated first day of spring snowstorm in Connecticut roughly after the final flakes fall sometime Monday morning.

Predictions have changed so much over the past four days.

In a late Sunday afternoon update the National Weather Service gives its final guess as to what to expect from an accumulation and timing standpoint. It’s changed somewhat since Sunday morning, and the biggest change impacts the snow’s timing.

What is obviously clear is, that it isn’t snowing yet, but Hazardous Weather Outlooks, Winter Weather Advisories and even a Winter Storm Warning are still in place for Connecticut for later this evening.

Here’s the National Weather Service’s best guess on what we can expect by noon Monday.

Fairfield County:

A Hazardous Weather Outlook is still in effect and areas here likely won’t see any snow until after 10 p.m. now. We’re still expecting 1-3 inches of snow and areas in the more eastern part of the county that border New Haven County could see between 2-3 inches of snow.

The snow ends between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday. The morning commute looks to be slippery. Temps will be below freezing tonight but rise to near 45 degrees Monday afternoon.

New Haven and Middlesex County:

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for later this evening and snow here could accumulate between 2-6 inches, which is quite the spread in potential snow totals. Visibilities will also be reduced.

In New Haven County snow begins between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. with a low in the upper 20s. Snow ends between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and temps will rise into the mid to upper 40s with sunshine expected later on Monday.

In Middlesex County snow and rain is possible after 8 p.m. and snow could linger until 12 p.m. Monday. Temps will be around 27 degrees tonight and rise to around 46 degrees Monday with sunshine in the afternoon.

New London County:

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for later this evening and 4-8 inches of snow accumulation is possible here. Snow is likely right before midnight and will accumulate 3-5 inches by early Monday morning. An additional 1-3 is likely before the snow is expected to end by 2 p.m. Monday. Temps will rebound to 45 degrees Monday afternoon.

Hartford County:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the area this evening and 2-4 inches of snow is expected to accumulate before it ends Monday morning. The snow will be at its heaviest after midnight.

Snow isn’t expected to begin until after 9 p.m. and fog may also be an issue late. The snow should end by 9 a.m. and temps rebound to 45 degrees Monday afternoon.

Tolland County:

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for 3-5 inches of snow to accumulate by mid Monday morning. Snow is expected to begin after 11 p.m. Areas of fog are expected after midnight and the snow will end around 10 a.m. Temps will rebound to about 41 degrees.

Original post: If you love snow, well sorry Fairfield County, you lose in this first day of spring snow.

The entire rest of Connecticut has been hit with advisories and warnings for light to moderate snow accumulation Sunday evening and early Monday, but not you.

Fairfield County has just a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the possibility of minor snow accumulation.

The accumulation estimates on this coastal storm have changed daily for the past few days, and right on cue the same happened again Sunday morning.

The entire state will see more snow than originally thought on Saturday, of course, except Fairfield County.

Also, the snow, which was expected to begin after 12 p.m. in western Connecticut is now expected to arrive later in the state. It’s also likely that falling snow or recently fallen snow will impact Monday’s commute back to work and impact some schools in Connecticut.

Whatever snow does accumulate likely won’t last long as temps will approach the mid to upper 40s later on Monday and the sun will be shining.

Here is a detailed look at how much snow to expect and when it will begin and end in Connecticut via the National Weather Service.

Fairfield County: A total of just 1-3 inches of snow is expected here. Some very light rain and snow showers may develop after 3 p.m. and the snow will pick up a bit in the evening hours. It’s expected to end by 9 a.m. Monday.

New Haven County: A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued beginning at 6 p.m. Snow may accumulate 2-4 inches. Rain and snow may begin after 3 p.m. but the steadier snow is expected this evening and in the overnight hours. It’s expected to end by 10 a.m. Monday.

Middlesex County: A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the area for up to 3-5 inches of snow. Snow will begin early this evening and ends by mid morning Monday. You can expect snow covered roads on the way to work Monday.

New London County: The area is expected to hit the jackpot for snow as a Winter Storm Warning has been issued beginning at 6 p.m. lasting until 10 a.m. A total of 4-8 inches is expected here. Heavy snow is possible at times and poor visibility could be an issue too.

Hartford County: A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for 2-4 inches of snow, which is expected to begin between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight and continue overnight but end right around the morning rush hour Monday

Tolland County: A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for between 4-7 inches of snow, which will begin 6-10 p.m. tonight. It also ends around the morning rush hour.
