Snow & Ice Removal Reminders From Darien

With winter here, the town of Darien is reminding residents about snow and ice removal protocols.

DARIEN, CT — Now that winter has arrived, the town of Darien is reminding residents about snow and ice removal protocols.

In her weekly newsletter last week, First Selectman Monica McNally reiterated that property owners are required to remove snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property within 24 hours.

If you have circumstances that make you unable to clear your sidewalk, help is available, McNally said.

At Home in Darien, a local nonprofit, has volunteers able to assist with shoveling public walkways. They are unable to shovel private walkways or driveways.

If financial reasons are preventing a property owner from being able to remove snow, Human Services office may be able to provide assistance. Call the Human Services office at 203-656-7494 for information.

McNally also said it's beneficial to clear snow away from storm rains to allow for proper drainage and access. Residents should be aware of vehicular traffic and wear light colored clothing when visibility is very good.
