Some Nighttime Trips May Take You Longer: I-95 Lanes, Exit Near Darien to Close at Night

Highway projects in both Stamford and Norwalk will take place on multiple nights: It's started in Stamford already, in Norwalk within days.

If you travel at night on Interstate 95 after 9 p.m. near Darien this construction and survey work may slow you down:

  • In Stamford, work on two Route 1 bridges over Interstate 95 will close the left lane for “southbound” (westbound) traffic on Thursday night in sections not far from Exit 9.
  • In Norwalk, the southbound Exit 14 ramp will be closed at night for two weeks, starting Monday.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced the projects in separate news releases earlier this week. The lane closures and exit ramp closure run from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. in Stamford and from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. in Norwalk.

Stamford: I-95 Lane Closures Near Exit 9

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing nighttime lane closures to perform surveying for a bridge replacement project in Stamford beginning Wednesday, October 28, 2014 -- weather permitting. It is Bridge No. 00037, which carries Route 1 (East Main Street) over I-95 Project #135-325 Route 1 East Main Street over I-95 Bridge #00037 Replacement in the City of Stamford starting on October 28, 2014.

The project consists of the following work locations:

· On I-95 Southbound in the vicinity of Exit 9 from the Hamilton Ave. overpass, the right lane will be closed on Tuesday night and traffic will be shifted to the center and left lanes while the pavement and the bridge abutment will be surveyed. The right lane will be reopened at the end of the entrance ramp at the Blachley Ave. overpass. The southbound exit and entrance ramps will be open throughout the operation. On Thursday night the left lane will be closed in the same area to allow survey of the pavement and bridge pier.

· On I-95 Northbound in the vicinity of Exit 9 from the Blachley Avenue overpass, the right lane will be closed on Tuesday night and traffic will be shifted to the center and left lanes while the pavement and the bridge abutment will be surveyed. The northbound exit ramp will remain open while the northbound entrance ramp will be closed during this operation. The right lane will be reopened approximately ¼ mile north of the Rte. 1 Bridge at the Hamilton Ave. underpass. On Thursday night the left lane will be closed in the same area to allow survey of the pavement and bridge pier. Both northbound exit and entrance ramps will remain open throughout this operation.

LANE CLOSURE INFO-

I-95 Southbound from the Exit 9 off ramp to the Exit 9 entrance ramp, 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 30, 2014; and

I-95 Northbound from the Exit 9 exit ramp to the Hamilton Avenue overpass from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4 and Thursday, November 6, 2014.

This operation is weather dependent.

Norwalk: I-95 Southbound Exit 14 Ramp

Here’s the announcement:

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the nighttime closure of the I-95 southbound Exit 14 off-ramp in Norwalk for two weeks from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., beginning Monday, Nov. 3, 2014.

These closures are required to allow construction crews access to the ramp for pavement reconstruction. The traveling public will be detoured to Exit 13 onto U.S. Route 1 where they will be directed north.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. For more information, please visit the project website at www.i95norwalk.com.
