Stolen Vehicle Recovered, Man Arrested: Darien Police

A universal smart key fob, commonly used in vehicle thefts, was recovered from the arrestee, Darien police said.

DARIEN, CT — A New York City man was arrested Sunday after Darien police say they recovered a stolen vehicle in town.

Kenny Meza-Gomez, 20, of the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle - first offense, a crime summary update from police said.

On April 13 at approximately 5:40 p.m., a police officer noticed two vehicles entering an Exxon gas station in the 1300 block of the Post Road "in an aggressive manner," police said.

An Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert identified one of the vehicles, a white Infiniti, as stolen out of New York, according to police.

"Officers responded to the scene, where they encountered multiple individuals near the vehicles. Upon contact, one male suspect, later identified as Kenny Meza-Gomez, attempted to evade officers but was apprehended," police said. "The white Infiniti was confirmed stolen, and a universal smart key fob, commonly used in vehicle thefts, was found in Meza-Gomez's possession."

The second vehicle, which police said was possibly a BMW, fled the scene.

Meza-Gomez posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 2.
