Study: Downtown Darien Parking Costs Should Go Up

A consultant looked at commuter parking and commercial parking in downtown Darien.

A recently completed study of parking in downtown Darien suggested that daily parking rates should be increased.

An article in the Darien News said members of the Board of Selectmen who serve as the town’s Parking Authority heard an overview of the study by consultant Tom Brown of Nelson-Nygaard.

The more than 100-page document focused on commuter parking in the downtown area and ways to increase commercial parking for downtown businesses.

Among the suggestions from the consultant, the News reported, were raising all-day parking rates at town-owned lots from $3 to $8 and consolidating different types of short-term parking which would be easier for visitors to understand.
