Suspect Arrested In Frates’s Liquors Burglaries: Darien PD

The Post Road store was hit with three break-ins last winter.

DARIEN, CT — A 46-year-old Stamford man has been arrested by Darien police in connection with two of three separate burglaries last winter at Frates's Liquors on the Post Road in Darien, officials announced.

Thomas Golterman, of Martin Street, is facing multiple charges of burglary, larceny and criminal mischief in connection the break-ins, all of which occurred in December 2016 and February 2017. In all three of the burglaries, the suspect allegedly "forced entry into the establishment by smashing out the front window using a rock." He then allegedly climbed through the busted window, and once inside he removed cash from the registers.

"On August 25, 2017, the Stamford Police Department apprehended a subject [later identified as Golterman] who was in the process of committing several overnight burglaries," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The burglaries were all similar in nature to the Darien incidents."

Based on video surveillance footage and further investigation, Darien police detectives determined that Golterman was responsible for burglaries at Frate’s liquors on December 28, 2016, and February 19, 2017. The burglary on December 15, 2016 remains under investigation.

"On September 28, 2017, Darien Detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Golterman for the two burglaries. Due to the fact that Golterman had remained in custody of the CT Department of Corrections since August, arrangements had to be made for him to be brought to Stamford Superior Court to face the Darien charges."
