Suspected Burglar Arrested By Darien Police
The suspect is accused of stealing a car and breaking into a home in Darien.

DARIEN, CT — A 40-year-old Bronx, NY man has been arrested on a warrant in connection with two residential burglaries in Darien and a stolen SUV, according to Darien Police Det. James Palmieri.
Casey J. Gagnon is accused of stealing a 2002 Acura MDX from a home on Sedgwick Avenue and breaking into an Overbrook Lane home both on Jan. 10.
The Sedgwick Avenue theft occurred at about 12:45 a.m. after a resident heard a noise outside of the home.

"When the complainant looked outside, he observed his 2002 Acura MDX being backed out of the driveway," Palmieri stated. "It would later be determined that the noise heard was the sound of the MDX striking the complainants other vehicle as it left. The complainant informed officers that the keys had been left in the stolen vehicle."
In the Overbrook Lane break in, a resident contacted police at about 1:30 a.m. that an intruder was in her home.

"Officers responded to the residence and searched for the intruder, but were unable to locate the suspect. The complainant explained that she was in her 2nd floor bedroom and heard a noise. Thinking it was an unexpected visit from a family member; the complainant exited her bedroom and called out. After doing so, the complainant stated an unknown female exited one of the other second floor bedrooms and ran down the stairs presumably to exit the premises. She was unable to give a further description. The complainant retreated to her bedroom and called 9-1-1."
Police discovered that the suspect had rifled through many areas on the first floor of the home, and took an iPad and the victim’s purse containing various IDs, bank cards, and $100 in cash.
"A kitchen stand mixer, still in the box, had also been taken from underneath the Christmas tree."
Additionally, a 2012 Toyota Prius and a 2003 Lexus ES, both parked in the driveway, had been entered and rifled through, but nothing was taken. "The complainant reported the door to her residence, as well at the doors to both vehicles, had been unlocked."
Darien police were able to identify Gagnon as the suspect, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. He was apprehended at his home in the Bronx, and Darien police extradited him back to Connecticut on March 12.
"During questioning, Gagnon admitted to acting alone in the commission of the alleged crimes," stated Palmieri.
Gagnon was charged with:
- Larceny, 1st Degree
- Burglary, 1st Degree
- Conspiracy to Burglary, 1st Degree
- Larceny, 4th Degree
- Burglary, 3rd Degree from a MV
- Illegal Use of Credit Cards
He was held in lieu of bail of $200,000 and was scheduled to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on March 13.
