SUV Stolen, Others Vehicles Burglarized In Darien: Police

The incidents reportedly occurred between Aug. 13 and Aug. 20.

DARIEN, CT — A 2005 Nissan Xterra was reported stolen from a driveway on Rocaton Road in Darien on Aug. 19, according to police, one of several vehicles that were broken into in town between Aug. 13 and Aug. 20.

The keys to the Xterra were in the center console cup holder on the 19th, and it was taken sometime between 4:30 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. The investigation is continuing.

Below is a round up of the other vehicle burglaries reported between the 13th and the 20th. Separately, Darien police arrested two Bridgeport juveniles on Aug. 22 in connection with the thefts of two cars from Stamford, and they are possible suspects for other recent vehicle break-ins in town, according to officials.

1.) A laptop was reported stolen from a 2015 Ford Escape that was burglarized at residence on Tulip Tree Lane on the 13th.

Darien police said the owner believes they left the vehicle unlocked overnight and noticed the glove compartment was open the next morning. A neighbor also found the Escape owner's briefcase in their yard which had contained the laptop.

2.) Cash totaling $130 was reportedly taken from an unlocked 2016 BMW X3 at a residence on Dubois Street on Aug. 18.

The vehicle had been parked in the driveway, and the glove compartment was also left open.

3.) A thief tried to steal a 2016 Honda Pilot from the driveway of a home on Hollow Tree Ridge Road on Aug. 20, but they mistakenly drove forward and smashed into the garage door before jumping out of the vehicle and fleeing, according to police.

The homeowner was awaken by the crash at about 12:30 a.m. "When the homeowner looked outside, they observed their vehicle apparently driven into their garage door," wrote Darien police in a statement. "They noticed the driver’s side door ajar. The homeowner immediately called police. Officers, including a K-9, responded to the area in an attempt to locate the suspect, but were unsuccessful."

The keys to the vehicle had been left inside but were now missing.

4.) Another vehicle - a 2014 Mercedes-Benz - at a different residence on Hollow Tree Ridge Road was also burglarized on the 20th.

The Mercedes was parked in the driveway unlocked, but nothing appears to have been taken.

5.) Two debit cards were taken from an unlocked 2016 Mazda CX-5 that was parked in the driveway of a home on Wilson Ridge Road on the 20th.

"[The homeowner] noticed during the night that the interior light in his car was on. Upon inspection, he observed the glove box open and two debit cards were missing."

Other than the vehicle's interior light being on, the homeowner did not notice any unusual activity.

6.) A debit card, credit card, and a driver’s license were reportedly stolen from a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan and a 2014 Subaru Forester on the 20th, both of which were parked at another residence on Wilson Ridge Road East, according to police. Both vehicles had been unlocked.

7.) An unlocked 2012 Honda CR-V was reportedly burglarized at another home on Hollow Tree Ridge Road on Aug. 20, but it appears that nothing was taken.
