SUV Stolen In Stamford Recovered In Darien: PD

The vehicle's owner didn't even know it had been stolen, according to Darien police.

DARIEN, CT — A 2008 Toyota 4Runner was recovered by police in Darien on June 19, before the vehicle's Stamford owner even realized that it had been stolen, according to Darien police.

While officers were checking Alpine Lane and nearby Echo Drive at about 4 a.m. on the 19th, following a report of "two suspicious males entering unlocked cars," the officers were approached by an Echo Drive homeowner who said the vehicle - the gray 4Runner - the two suspects had driven was still in the area.

"The two subjects, reportedly black males in their teens, wearing shorts, had already fled west towards the Middlesex Swim Club," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The gray Toyota recovered was registered to a Stamford resident; upon contacting the registered owner, he reported he was previously unaware that his vehicle has been stolen and was directed to Stamford PD to file a stolen vehicle complaint. The vehicle had reportedly been left unlocked in the driveway of the Stamford residence with the keys in same."
