Teen Arrested for DUI in Darien

His vehicle had fresh damage, police said.

DARIEN, CT—An 18-year-old was arrested for DUI after an officer observed him driving at a high rate of speed, police said.

An officer observed a white Mercedes driving at a high rate of speed July 12 around 12:30 a.m. on the Post Road. Its left taillight was smashed.

The vehicle pulled into the parking lot of 1500 Post Road, a medical building. An officer followed and stopped the two occupants as they began walking away.

The operator smelled of alcohol and had glassy eyes, police said. He said he was walking to his apartment on Glenbrook Road in Stamford. 1500 Post Road is a few miles away from Glenbrook Road.

The officer asked why he took off at a high rate of speed previously. The teen said that he was nervous. There was fresh damage to the front and back side of his vehicle, police said.

He failed field sobriety tests and breath tests came back at .089 and .0812, police said. For a 21-year-old adult those results would be slightly over the legal limit. The limit for someone under 21 is .02.

He was charged with DUI, improper rear lamps and disobeying the signal of an officer.
