Teens Caught Drinking At Darien House Party Leads To Arrest Of Parents: Cops
The incident resulted in the temporary shutdown of Metro-North trains traveling through the area.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien couple was arrested early Saturday after their Silver Lakes Drive home was allegedly used by teenagers for an underage drinking party, according to police.
Officers were called to the home of Paul and Anastasia Arevalo at about 1:15 a.m. on a noise complaint.
"Officers encountered several subjects talking loudly in front of 17 Silver lakes Drive and then observed other people, believed to be teenagers, running from the house into a wooded area adjacent to the home," wrote Darien police in a statement. "Officers observed empty beer cans on the garage floor with tables set up that held beer cans and other alcoholic beverages containers."

The home is adjacent to the Metro-North train tracks, and after the teens fled into the woods near the tracks, MTA police temporarily halted train service as a precaution, according to police.

"Officers did locate numerous teenagers in the woods and returned them to the house and the hold on all train traffic was then lifted," wrote police. "Both arrested parties listed above stated they knew their child was having friends over for a party but disavowed any knowledge of alcoholic beverage consumption. Both stated that they were home during the time frame of this party. Six Darien and New Canaan juveniles, 16 and 17 years of age, at least one of which was visibly intoxicated, were later turned over to their parents."
The two parents were charged with Permitting Minors to Illegally Possess Alcohol, and were released on promises to appear in court on May 23.
"The Darien Police Department again reminds residents that property owners and parents are responsible for what happens in their homes and on their property. Property owners and parents will be cited if they knew, or clearly should have known, that underage subjects were possessing alcohol in their home or on their property and they fail to take any and all reasonable steps to halt said possession."
