Thief Spends Freely After Snagging Wallet at Darien Starbucks

A fraudster went on a spending spree at several CVS stores in the area.

DARIEN, CT- A thief spent hundreds of dollars at multiple stores after a man's wallet was stolen at a Darien Starbucks.

The victim, a New Jersey resident was on his way to Boston and stopped in Darien to grab a cup of coffee before the shop closed May 19, police said.

He left behind his wallet, but didn't realize it until he got alerts on his phone about fraudulent credit card activity.

A card was used at 1:11 a.m. at a Gulf gas station on the Major Deegan Expressway in New York.

Then the thief apparently decided to circle back to Connecticut and use a card at the CVS in Greenwich at 1:45 a.m. He spent $180.95.

Purchases were then made at two CVS locations in Stamford for $180 and $211.

The wallet also contained $440 in cash.

Police are working to get security video of the fraudster.
