DARIEN, CT — At least nine unlocked vehicles were burglarized in Darien from July 19 through July 21, according to police, as thieves continue to hit the town because many residents appear unwilling to lock their cars.

On July 19, a 2016 GMC Savana and a 2010 Subaru Outback were reportedly broken into at a residence on the Post Road.

"Complainant reported that two of his vehicles had been entered during the overnight hours," wrote Darien police in a statement. "Both vehicles had been left unlocked overnight, and both were found with the glovebox open. The cars were parked in the driveway of the residence, in front of the garage. The complainant stated he didn’t believe anything had been taken. A canvass was conducted, with negative results."

The plastic tray was subsequently located at the end of a driveway at a neighbor’s house [on Seagate Road]. A canvass was conducted, with negative results."

Moving onto July 21, two unlocked vehicles at a home on Edgewood Road in Darien - a 2010 Nissan Rogue, and a 2008 Toyota Corolla - were reportedly burglarized.

"Officers responded to the residence on the report of vehicles being entered during the overnight hours. Both car doors had been left unlocked, and the homeowner discovered that the glove boxes of both had been rifled through. The homeowner reported that it appeared nothing had been taken."

Also at another residence on Edgewood Road, three more vehicles - a 2011 BMW 5 Series, 2015 Audi A6 and a 2001 Jeep Wrangler - were reportedly burglarized the same night.

"While conducting a canvass in response to case [previously mentioned case], it was discovered that the three vehicles in the driveway of [another Edgewood Road home] had been entered. The three entered vehicles all had their glove boxes rifled through, but the homeowner didn’t believe anything had been taken. All three were left unlocked.
