Connecticut Weather: Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Today

The state may see thunderstorms today. Here's the latest on when, and there are a couple of more chances for storms in the forecast too.

Connecticut hasn’t faced thunderstorms in more than a day, so we’re seemingly due for more, and that is definitely possible today. The state could see thunderstorms this afternoon, but the good news is it’s not expected to be as significant or as widespread as Monday’s severe weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Hartford and Tolland counties for a “low risk of a few strong thunderstorms with gusty winds this afternoon.” For southern Connecticut, the Hazardous Weather Outlook states, "Scattered thunderstorms late today into early this evening ahead of an approaching front could produce isolated instances of damaging wind gusts."

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan says, “Will be watching the radar closely this afternoon for a few strong storms. Not everyone gets a storm but some towns will. Best chance is along the shoreline. Primary risk is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m”

So we’ll see what happens. As always with thunderstorms, some people will get the storm, while others will see sunshine. After today, there could be more thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday, too.

At least today is the first day of summer, and there is also plenty of sunshine in the forecast.
