Upcoming Darien Public Hearings To Focus On Cannabis And Propane Tanks
Officials are looking to specifically prohibit cannabis establishments, and establish new propane and fuel tank regulations.

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Planning & Zoning Commission will hold two public hearings on June 11 as officials look to specifically prohibit cannabis establishments in town and establish new regulations regarding propane and other fuel tanks on properties.
The commission has put forward a proposal to prohibit cannabis establishments in town, including but not limited to dispensaries, growers, manufacturers, or retail establishments.
According to a posting on the town website, current zoning regulations do not permit cannabis establishments as part of a broader category of business, so the proposed amendment addresses cannabis establishments specifically.

Under the proposal, above ground tanks would only be allowed to be placed to the side or rear of a building only.
Additionally, new below ground tanks will need to meet current building code setbacks.
Standards regarding fuel storage tanks are not currently spelled out clearly in the Darien zoning regulations, according to a memo from Darien Director of Land Use Jeremy Ginsberg and Assistant Director Fred Doneit.
Members of the Darien Planning & Zoning Commission suggested establishing clear standards.

The public hearings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Town HAll room 206 on June 11.
