First Selectman Monica McNally gave several updates on a variety of topics during this week's Board of Selectmen meeting.

DARIEN, CT — Darien First Selectman Monica McNally gave updates on a variety of topics during this week's regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen meeting.
COVID-19
On COVID-19, McNally said the positivity rate as of last week was 9.54 percent, which is a slight increase from the previous week's percentage of 9.2. The outlook remains much better than earlier this summer, when the positivity rate was 19.81 percent.
Great Island Due Diligence
McNally explained that due to "outstanding issues," the town has extended the due diligence period on the Great Island purchase to March 6, 2023, with a closing date of April 20, 2023. The 75-day period was set to expire Aug. 6.

Darien Drought Conditions
Darien is still experiencing stage 2 drought conditions, McNally said, noting the state's 90-day rainfall deficit currently stands at around negative 5.5 inches.
"Fire danger is fluctuating daily between high and very high, and our fire marshal is urging residents to use caution when using any firepits or grilling outdoors," McNally said.

Metro-North Noise Pollution
As part of the Wester Connecticut Council of Governments (WESTCOG), McNally said she participated in the selection of a consultant to complete a noise pollution abatement feasibility said on the Metro-North's New Canaan branch line.
"The study will conduct diagnostic reviews of individual crossings, assess project cost and benefits and engage the community during the course of the study," McNally said. The study will begin this fall, she said.
Eversource Mediation
The town is continuing to participate in the mediation process with Eversource on Little Brook Road.
"At this time, we are in the beginning of the agreement on the planting plan that has been presented," McNally said. "Eversource did decline our request to leave the 25 trees that were identified by town officials, and we are looking at what our next actions will be there including pursuing it through PURA (Public Utilities Regulatory Authority)."
Darien entered into mediation with Eversource because of the utility company's proposal to remove dozens of trees.
