The League of Women Voters of Darien and Barrett Books are pleased to announce that Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D. NY) will be in Darien to discuss her newly released book: “Off the Sidelines: Raise Your Voice Change the World”.

In “Off the Sidelines”, Senator Gillibrand describes her early life growing up in a family where she learned the importance of advocacy and the value of political involvement from her mother and grandmother. She recounts the inspiring words of an encounter with Hilary Clinton which impelled her to action.

She illustrates with humor and frankness her own efforts to balance work and family life and her strategic involvement with important human rights issues of our day such as protecting victims of sexual assault in the military and repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

In her sharp, honest and refreshingly relatable voice, she dares us all to tap into our inner strength, find personal fulfillment and speak up for what we believe in.
