Used Cooking Oil Reported Stolen From Darien Restaurant: Cops
The theft was reported on Sept. 5.

DARIEN, CT — About $600 worth of used cooking oil was reported stolen last week from the back of Jimmy's Southside, a restaurant on Heights Road in Darien, according to police.
The theft was reported on the afternoon of Sept. 5 an employee of company called "Yellowgreen Environmental Solutions," which purchases the substance from restaurants.
"The employee informed officers that his company purchases used cooking oil from restaurants, Jimmy’s Southside being one of them," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The employee came to the rear of the restaurant and found the lock to the container cut, and the grease removed. He estimated the value of the stolen oil to be $600. The employee told Officers that this was occurring at other clients’ locations, and they suspected it was done in the early morning."

Used cooking oil is often recycled or used to make biodiesel fuel, and thieves can turn a quick buck because a black market exists for it, writes the New York Post.
Darien police conducted a canvass of the area following the reported theft, but there are no suspects at this time. However, detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
