Vehicle Stolen, Several Other Burglarized In Darien: Police

All but one of the vehicles were unlocked, according to police.

DARIEN, CT — A locked 2017 Subaru Forester was stolen from a home on Lakeside Avenue in Darien sometime during the overnight hours of March 22, one of a rash of vehicle break-ins reported in town that night, according to Darien police.

No other vehicles were stolen, but seven unlocked vehicles were burglarized, police said.

The stolen Subaru was recovered in Westport that same night, but had been in a crash following a brief police pursuit in that town, according to Westport police.

"Contact with the owner was made, who informed [Darien] officers that the vehicle had been locked and both sets of keys were in the residence, but that a valet key had been in the glove box," Darien police said. "A check of the area where the vehicle had been parked revealed broken glass,indicating forced entry."

Three of the vehicle burglaries occurred on Highland Avenue, while the other four occurred on Mclaren Road South. Nothing was reported stolen from six of the vehicles, though the interiors had been disturbed, but a $140 flashlight was reported stolen from a vehicle on Mclaren Road South.
