Volunteers Sought For Darien Swap Shop

DARIEN, CT — Volunteers are wanted for the Darien Swap Shop, according to the Darien Recycling Center.

"With its emphasis on REUSE, the Darien Swap Shop diverts thousands of pounds of unwanted but usable goods from the waste stream each year," the center posted on Facebook. "If you would like to help further the goals of this town treasure by serving as a volunteer, please email recycle@darienct.gov. Don't have the time but have great ideas? We'd still love to hear from you!"

Located at 126 Ledge Road, the swap shop was closed for the winter and was scheduled to reopen on April 1, but the opening was postponed due to several factors, First Selectman Jon Zagrodzky told Patch last week. The facility is expected to open "very soon."

Zagrodzky said the town wants to make sure volunteers are properly identified, and that there are clear rules for volunteers who want to take items home.

Additionally, there have been safety concerns with out-of-towners parking outside of the site and crossing the street to access the swap shop. Only residents with dump stickers can get past the guard booth.

The town will announce a reopening date when it's finalized.
