Warning Issued To Avoid Venturing Onto Icy Ponds In Darien

Darien Police Chief Don Anderson took to Twitter to warn residents of the dangers of thin ice.

DARIEN, CT — Though they might appear inviting, ice-covered lakes and ponds can mask portions where the ice is thin, and Darien Police Chief Don Anderson is warning residents to "not venture out onto ice on any body of water" in town.

"Over the past few days there have been at least 3 incidents in the Tri-State area where young people have fallen through thin ice," Anderson wrote on the department's Twitter page. "Unfortunately these incidents had tragic endings."

In recent incidents the chief was alluding to, two teenagers in New Jersey died after separate cases of falling through thin ice in Carteret and East Brunswick, reports AccuWeather.com.
