WEATHER UPDATE: Heavy Snow, Ice Hitting Darien Today

The National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight and there is still a snow chance until 8 p.m.

In a storm that already dumped several inches of snow on the area overnight, now we are firmly in the midst of a major ice storm that will continue throughout the whole day including this evenings commute home from work if you ended up going.

The heavy snow is mixing with sleet and freezing rain and will continue throughout the day accumulating an additional 2-4 inches and a total storm accumulation of 8-12 inches.

The National Weather Service says it will be snow and freezing rain until 2 p.m. and then snow, freezing rain and sleet from 2-4 p.m. and snow likely after 4 p.m. Up to a 0.4 tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow stops around 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service cautions that the freezing rain and snow could be very heavy at times.
