Whoops: Phone Scam Targets Darien Police Lieutenant

Naturally Lt. Ronald Bussell didn't fall for the scam.

DARIEN, CT- Phone scammers makes thousands of calls to Connecticut residents each year hoping to catch some unaware residents in a money trap. Recently they picked a poor target; the head of the Darien Detective Division.

Lt. Ronald Bussell, who is scheduled to retire at the end of the month got a call from someone claiming to be with the "Marshal Service" in upstate New York. The person threatened Bussell and said that he would be arrested if money wasn't wired immediately.

Naturally Bussell didn't fall for the scam. He warned residents to be wary of such calls.

The scam is basically the same format as another common one going around that involves an "IRS agent" who threatens arrest if taxes aren't wired immediately.
