Darien Resident Honored at Fordham Law Alumni Luncheon

James S. Brown, an attorney with the Wilson Elser law firm was presented with the 2015 Medal of Achievement Award

National law firm Wilson Elser is pleased to announce that James S. Brown, of counsel in the firm’s New York City office, was honored at the Fordham Law Annual Alumni Association luncheon held on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Cipriani in New York City.

Brown, who graduated from Fordham Law in 1972, received the Medal of Achievement Award, the highest honor given by Fordham Law to its alumni.

Brown is a veteran trial attorney who has focused on the defense of medical malpractice claims for more than 30 years. He served as chair of Wilson Elser’s Senior Trial Group, a highly experienced group of attorneys that reviews the firm’s high-exposure cases and oversees trial-skills training programs for the firm’s associates.

Throughout his career, Brown has represented many of the major New York metropolitan hospitals and their affiliated physicians and staff members at trial. He led a group of attorneys in the representation of one of the major university-affiliated teaching hospitals in New York City. Brown began his career as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan.

He is a fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and in April 2013, was named to the Committee on Grievances in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York, charged with investigating complaints against attorneys and recommending appropriate disciplinary action, if or when necessary.

An active supporter of the university, in October 2012, Brown was elected to Fordham University’s board of trustees for a three-year term, and serves on the university’s Facilities Committee, which oversees the physical facilities and facility planning on all campuses.

Respected by his peers, Brown earned an AV® Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been selected for inclusion in New York Super Lawyers.

Brown received a B.A. from Hofstra University and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
