Wednesday was 'Senior Day,' when Darien's about-to-graduate senior players honor their mothers with flowers.
And that was the last nice thing to happen on the field this day for Darien. It was all downhill for the home team from there. Wilton won 8-0.
Wilton scored first in the third inning, with a double with two runs batted in; in the fourth inning, the team scored two more; three more came in the fifth; another in the seventh.
"We knew this was a playoff game -- we told the kids, 'You lose, you're done," Wilton Coach Tim Eagen said afterward. "As a coach, you smile at a game like this."
He said Warriors pitcher Andrew Jacobson "was absolutely outstanding on the mound."
Blue Wave coach Mike Scott said Wilton "came and took it to us today. We have to tip our caps to them today."
