A pedestrian on Searles Road flagged the constable down and said that she was nearly hit by a black SUV. The SUV came back around the bend heading northbound in the southbound lane. The constable had to move his vehicle so it wouldn't get hit.
Eventually the vehicle was stopped. The operator Melissa Wallace, 23, of Locust Valley, N.Y. failed field sobriety tests and blood-alcohol tests came back with results of .2992 and .2679, both over the legal limit of .08, police said.

Wallace fell off a bench couple of times while being booked at headquarters. Post 53 was summoned due to her high level of intoxication and she was transported to Stamford Hospital.
While Wallace was being processed police communications got a call about a hit-and-run in the parking lot of the Center Street municipal lot earlier in the day. The caller gave a description of the vehicle and a license plate that matched Wallace's.
She was charged with DUI, evading responsibility and failure to drive right.
