Woman Assaulted After Confronting Car Burglary Suspect: Darien Police
There have been multiple car burglaries reported in town recently, in addition to a report of a stolen car, according to Darien police.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien woman was assaulted after she tried to confront a car burglary suspect on Dec. 7, according to police. Two other car burglaries and a car theft were also recently reported in town.
On Dec. 7 shortly before 10 a.m., Darien police were on Anthony Lane investigating a report of a stolen car. A 2024 Audi Q5 was reported stolen between 8:24 a.m., and 9:30 a.m. The car was later recovered around 3:30 p.m., in Waterbury, police said. No arrests were made.
While on the scene in Darien, officers were approached by a woman who reported a car burglary that occurred on Anthony Lane approximately an hour before, police said.

The woman said she saw a suspect going through her unlocked car and she decided to confront the suspect, police said. The woman told police she ran outside and the suspect got into a Porsche SUV that was waiting near her driveway.
The woman grabbed the door handles of the Porsche, police said, but the suspect opened the door and hit the woman's leg before driving off at a high rate of speed. The woman refused medical attention.

Police advised residents to call 911 immediately in similar situations.
“We do not recommend anyone confront these individuals. It is recommended that you stay inside and call 911 if it happens to you. They could be armed and there are usually more than one suspect,” Sgt. Dan Skoumbros of the Darien Police Department told Patch. “There have been incidents in CT where homeowners were attacked when confronting these dangerous felons.”
A few days prior, a car burglary was reported at a parking lot at Woodland Park, police said. A woman told police she parked her car from approximately 10 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., and came back to find the rear passenger window had been smashed and her purse was stolen, police said.
That same day, police responded to the parking lot at the Darien Nature Center where a woman said her front driver's side window was broken between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The woman's cross-body bag was taken from the car, police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
