GREENWICH, CT — The Darien Police Department said it is investigating separate robberies at a private home and a business that occurred on Oct. 13.

Around 3:21 p.m., on Thursday, police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery at a Maywood Road residence.

A woman told police that shortly after pulling into her garage, a man grabbed her bag off her lap when she opened the car door, Sgt. Daniel Skoumbros said in a news release. The bag contained money that she just withdrew from a bank in the center of town.

The woman described the person as a white or hispanic man who was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and a surgical-style mask, Skoumbros said. The man fled to the street and got into a white SUV. The woman was not injured, police said.

Surveillance footage in the area showed a white SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, following the woman's car to her home and leaving shortly after, Skoumbros said.

Later on Thursday at approximately 8:19 p.m., officers responded to Discount Wine and Spirits on the Post Road on a report of an armed robbery.

A victim told police that his store was robbed, and that a man armed with a handgun came in and demanded that he open the cash register, Skoumbros said, noting that the man took an undetermined amount of money and left. No injuries were reported.

Police said no other information will be released at this time. Skoumbros said the robberies are not related to each other.
