Crews entered the woods on ATVs to assist with the search.
"Thankfully, crews were able to locate all three hikers and safely transport them back down the mountain," the Middlefield Fire Company posted.
Fire officials shared the following tips for hikers:
- Know your route - Familiarize yourself with the trail before heading out and stay on marked trails.
- Bring a charged phone - Consider carrying a portable battery pack, but remember that cell service may be limited.
- Carry a map - Don't rely solely on your phone or GPS. A physical map can be invaluable when you lose service or battery.
- Plan for daylight - Know when the sun will set and give yourself plenty of time to return before dark.
- Check the weather - Storms can quickly change trail conditions, especially on rocky or wooded terrain.
- Tell someone your plans - Let someone know where you're hiking, what trail you're taking, and when you expect to be back.
- Carry essential gear - A flashlight, water, basic first-aid supplies, and appropriate clothing can make a big difference if something goes wrong.
- Most importantly, if you become lost, stop and stay put when it is safe to do so. Call 911 and provide rescuers with your location and any landmarks you can identify.
