MIDDLEFIELD, CT — A missing person report in the area of Black Pond ended tragically Monday evening, as authorities launched a search and found the individual deceased, officials said.
William Flood, a spokesman for the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, said Environmental Conservation Police responded to the report around 5 p.m.
The Connecticut State Police, Middlefield Fire Department, and police K9 teams also participated in the search. The victim was found shortly before 7 p.m.
The identity of the individual was still being withheld as of mid-day Tuesday, pending notification of next of kin.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Officials said it appears to be an isolated incident, with no criminal aspect or threat to the public.
