The East Lyme Police Department will host a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Connecticut on&nbsp;Thursday, Oct. 8&nbsp;from 5-9&nbsp;p.m.&nbsp;at Family Pizza in Niantic. 

During the event, law enforcement will join restaurant staff in serving and interactions with customers while helping raise funds that provide year-round opportunities for Special Olympics athletes. The money raised through Tip-A-Cop helps fund programs that directly benefit athletes, including sports training and competition, equipment, coaching, and tournaments.&nbsp; 

The impact of donations extends beyond the playing field. Fundraising supports Healthy Athletes programs that provide free health screenings and education, fitness and wellness initiatives, athlete leadership opportunities, and Unified Sports, which bring athletes with and without intellectual disabilities together as teammates. 
 “When you tip a cop, you are leaving more than a tip. You are helping create opportunities, build confidence, and empower athletes to reach their dreams,” Sgt. Nikki Mordasiewicz of the Hartford Police Department said. “Together, we serve, support, and make a difference for Special Olympics Connecticut.” 
Tip-A-Cop fundraisers provide law enforcement with an opportunity to strengthen its connection with the community while continuing to inspire inclusion for people of all abilities. All tips received will be dedicated to helping Special Olympics Connecticut provide life-changing sports, health, and fitness programs to athletes of all abilities. Tip-A-Cop is a Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut event.

Join us for the 8th annual National Drive Electric Month (NDEM) event at Kathleen E. Goodwin School, 80 Old Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, CT 06475, on Saturday, 10 October 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. At this event, experienced electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) owners will show their cars and share how they drive and charge their vehicles. Auto dealers will showcase some of the latest EV and PHEV models. Electrify Your Drive! Free EV Car Show in Old Saybrook

On Saturday, October 17th
from 10 am to 3 pm, Samuel Smith Farmstead and East Lyme Agribusiness will host their “End of Harvest”. This event for Children and Adults is free, and will be held at the Farmstead located at 82 Plants Dam Road in East Lyme, Connecticut.
There will be Live Farm Animals and Kids can participate in Cider and Applesauce Making. New this year, we will have tables set up for children to “paint pumpkins” with paint markers and take their decorated Sugar Pumpkins home with them.
Irish blacksmith Derek Collins will exhibit traditional blacksmithing techniques on his forge and anvil, and share insight into maintaining the history of the craft and its use here in New England.
Live Music will be provided by Five Bean Row, and Niantic Bay Shellfish Farm will offer Oysters with TJ.
Local En Plein Painters will return to End of Harvest and capture happenings of the day on canvas.&nbsp; Prior paintings have included Tractors, Landscape scenes of the Farmstead property, Farm Animals and more.
A “Great Pumpkin Contest” will be held the day of the event to guess the weight of a Giant Pumpkin grown this season on the Farmstead property.&nbsp; The winner will have the opportunity to take the Great Pumpkin home.
Courtney will be demonstrating Hearth Cooking in the Historic John Johnson House Fireplace.
There will be demonstrations with Historic Farm Tools on the Farmstead property and Tours of the Historic John Johnson House will also be available during End of Harvest.
