Motorist Faces OUI, Manslaughter Charges After Fatal Crash On Arrigoni Bridge In Portland

The November 2025 accident killed a Middletown resident, according to police.

PORTLAND, CT — A local woman is facing several charges for a crash last fall on the Arrigoni Bridge which killed a Middletown resident.

Angela Grammatico, 32, of Main Street, turned herself in to Portland police on Tuesday.

Police charged her on a warrant with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, reckless driving, second-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance.

The two-vehicle accident happened around 8:43 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2025.

The other driver, Jozef Baran, 70, of Middletown, died from his injuries.

Baran had been driving a Subaru westbound on the bridge, while Grammatico was driving a Ford Escape eastbound. The two vehicles collided head-on, on the Portland side of the bridge, according to police.

Baran was born in Poland and was a father of three and grandfather of two, according to his obituary, which says, “During his life he caught countless fish, restored countless cars, and helped countless people, friends and strangers alike.”

Grammatico was held on a $75,000 bond, and she is due to be arraigned in Superior Court in Middletown today.
