EASTFORD, CT — A 15-year-old from East Hampton died after sustaining a medical emergency while on a paddleboard, state officials said.
At 12:15 p.m. Sunday, the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s EnCon Police responded to Crystal Pond, Eastford, for the report of a person missing from a paddleboard.
Witnesses reported that the victim appeared to have a medical emergency and fell into the water, officials said.
The victim, a 15-year-old female from East Hampton, was recovered by a good Samaritan who came out onto the pond to assist, said DEEP spokesman Bill Flood.
The victim received treatment onshore and was transported to Day Kimball Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. The incident is under investigation by EnCon Police.
"DEEP extends our sympathies to the victim’s family and friends," Flood said.
An ID has not yet been released.
