Dirt Bike Rider Created 'Dangerous Situation' At Child's Birthday Party, Police Say

COLCHESTER, CT — A dirt bike rider was arrested after police say the rider created a "dangerous situation" at a child's birthday party.

Police responded to the Colchester RecPlex at 3:40 p.m. Saturday on a report of a dirt bike recklessly traveling throughout the property.

The rider went through the RecPlex "while a children's birthday party was taking place, creating a dangerous situation and disrupting the event," police said.

When police arrived, the rider accelerated away, going directly past an officer before speeding away onto public roads.

Witnesses and officers canvassing the area helped identify and locate the suspect. A 16-year-old East Hampton resident was issued a motor vehicle summons for reckless driving, operating without a license, operating without insurance under 18 and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

The juvenile was released on a promise to appear at Norwich Superior Court.

"The Colchester Police Department would like to thank the witnesses who took the time to speak with officers and provide information," police said. "Their cooperation, along with officers canvassing the area, was instrumental in quickly identifying and locating the operator."
