East Hampton's Town Council adopted an ordinance changing Agriculture Commission membership requirements at its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to the town's legal notice. The amendment replaces required youth appointments with encouragement for interested young residents to participate in the commission's work.
The ordinance document linked to the notice, which is labeled as a draft, describes the change as a recommendation from the Agriculture Commission. It calls for the commission to encourage and solicit participation by East Hampton youths interested in agriculture in its deliberations and activities.
The document specifies seven regular members and two alternates appointed by the Town Council. At least three regular members and one alternate must come from the agriculture community.
The town's notice, posted Friday, Oct. 23, states that the ordinance takes effect 20 days after publication. Residents can review it in the Office of the East Hampton Town Clerk or read the linked ordinance document online.
