Aspiring Poets

There is something about Epoch Arts that changes the "norm" of the way things go. Maybe it's the fact that we are free to express ourselves when we enter the building. We don't fear being judged for who are, we don't worry about fitting in because there are no cliques. Maybe it's because from the moment you walk into the room you are accepted into a huge family. Or maybe it's because the people who come in bring so much light, joy and creativity it can't be contained inside the walls of Epoch. We come here to learn from others, to grow and to learn to love ourselves, when we learn that, we bring it out. We take it outside of Epoch and teach others. Something so simple like the poetry slam we just had, turns into something fantastic. We didn't follow a list or a tight schedule, we didn't have to submit our poems or have them graded. We simply walked up to the microphone when we felt we were ready and read from the heart. Original, unoriginal, famous, unfamous, no matter the type or style of your poem, it was read. Read out loud, listened to and most importantly...understood. So to wrap this up, our first annual poetry slam went fantastically, and we hope that next year we have an even greater turn out.
