Why SVDM Likes To do the yearly Walk Against Hunger:
During the summer months, donations of food and money dry up for SVDM despite the fact that need actually rises because children in food-insecure families are home from school and still need to be fed by their families. The Walk Against Hunger in May of every year is the charity's main fundraising vehicle to fill this summer funding gap:

(SVDM), is the organization that runs the only soup kitchen and food pantry to serve the homeless and food-insecure folks of Middletown CT and surrounding communities (e.g., Durham, Middlefield, Haddam, Higganum, Cromwell, etc.). What I like beyond its highly compassionate mission is that this charity really does amazing work in this community on shoe-string budgets and with very little overhead. So its one of the few charities locally that I feel comfortable telling people that almost all money donated or collected gets to the hungry/suffering people who need it the most:
