The department was described at last week's Board of Finance meeting as "reactive" rather than proactive.

EAST HAMPTON, CT – Town officials and East Hampton police have begun addressing the department's staffing issues, the Middletown Press reported.
The department was described at last week’s Board of Finance meeting as being “entirely reactive” rather than proactive, according to the Middletown Press reported. The current state of the department does not lend itself to quick responses and investigations in a timely fashion.
One of the main issues police have to confront is dealing with medical emergencies, according to the Middletown Press. The department is also not staffed to monitor prisoners overnight.
