East Hampton Man Charged In Online Scam: Report

Police said an East Hampton man has been charged in connection with an online scam officers had been investigating for months.

EAST HAMPTON, CT — Police said an East Hampton man was arrested Saturday after being charged in connection to an online scam involving outdoor tool sheds, the Middletown Press reported. Police said they had been investigating the scam since August.

Police said 39-year-old Demetrios Elias Katras allegedly ran an online scam where he would offer sheds for sale through websites such as Craigslist, according to the Middletown Press. Police said the suspect made nearly $55,000 off this particular scam.

Police said the victims in this alleged scam were required to make large deposits to fake bank accounts controlled by the suspect, the Middletown Press reported. Police said the suspect was arrested Saturday and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 30.
