East Hampton Man Identified as Driver in Fatal Haddam Tractor Trailer Accident
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company.
At 6:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, Haddam Fire and Chester Hose Company were called to the scene of a tractor-trailer accident on Route 9 North in Haddam.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle, which was towing an empty trailer, and drove off the road and down the embankment,” the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company said via Facebook. “The northbound side of Route 9 was shut down between exits 8 and 9 while LifeStar crews arrived. The driver was pronounced dead on scene.”
East Hampton resident David Canfield, 56, was identified by state police as the driver of the tractor trailer, according to NBC Connecticut.

Firefighters and crews from the state Department of Transportation worked to remove trees and brush to extricate Canfield. Route 9 reopened around 9:40 a.m.
