East Hampton Teen Heralded For Preventing Suicide Attempt
A local teen is being praised for providing long-distance help in a critical situation.

EAST HAMPTON, CT — An East Hampton teen is being lauded for helping prevent a suicide attempt by a Florida boy. NBC CT reported that 14-year-old Reilly Howard was recently speaking on the phone with his friend who he plays video games with when the teen said he wanted to kill himself.
Howard stayed on the line with the teen, telling him life was worth living and putting him in contact with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The call lasted for several hours before the Florida boy was able to receive in-person help.
East Hampton High School Principal Eric Verner said that when faced with difficult circumstances, Howard did the right thing.
