
This Hospice Golf Tournament will be held at the Portland Golf Course on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. WFSB-TV 3 reporter Heather Hegedus will serve as the MC of the event.
Back in 1987, a group of local businessmen decided to sponsor an annual golf tournament to raise money for the Middlesex Hospice program.
“The goal of the tournament was to raise money for cancer services,” said John Kelley, who is the original and current chairman of the committee. “Several committee members had experienced cancer themselves.”

About the same time 25 years ago, Middlesex Hospital had established its Hospice program and opened the inpatient Weiss Hospice Unit. The Middlesex Hospice program offers end-of-life care and support for patients and their families, either at home or on the inpatient unit. The program staff and its volunteers provide patients and their families with care and comfort, as well as emotional and spiritual support.
