Indiana Strikes Back: State Takes Swipe at Connecticut

Indiana took out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal, lending its support to GE and others that have criticized the state's new taxes.

The state of Indiana has taken a swipe at Connecticut and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, possibly in retaliation for Malloyโ€™s strong criticism of that stateโ€™s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act a few months ago.

Indiana took out a full-page ad in Wednesdayโ€™s Wall Street Journal, lending its support to Fairfield-based GE, along with fellow Connecticut companies Aetna and Travelers that criticized the stateโ€™s new business tax increases in the recently adopted budget.

See the ad below and a letter to the three companies from Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

The ad states that Indiana offers its support to those companies in the wake of the looming tax increases โ€œbecause friends donโ€™t let friends pay higher taxes.โ€

General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt recently sent an email to the companyโ€™s Connecticut employees, notifying them that he has โ€œassembled an exploratory team to look into the companyโ€™s options to relocate corporate HQ to another state with a more pro-business environment.โ€
