McKinney Concedes to Foley, Supports Him '100 Percent' in November Election
McKinney said the ultimate goal was to elect a Republican governor and he will continue to work at that.

Moments after calling Tom Foley to congratulate him on a decisive victory, State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, of Fairfield, said he was throwing his support behind Foley “100 percent” to help him win his rematch with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in November.
“Connecticut has gone in the wrong direction under this governor and that’s why I got into the race,” McKinney told his supporters at the Local Kitchen & Beer Bar in Fairfield. “The race does not end tonight. The goal was to elect a new governor. The goal was to make Dan Malloy a one-term governor and get a fiscally responsible Republican in the governor’s office. And that goal is still ahead of us.”
The Associated Press called the Republican gubernatorial primary race at 9 p.m. with Foley ahead by a 57 to 42 percent margin out of the 39,000 votes tallied at that time.

“At the end of the day, Tom Foley ran a better race,” McKinney said. “Tom Foley is our candidate for governor. And I told Tom Foley that 100 percent of my efforts from tomorrow morning to November 4 will be getting Tom Foley and other Republicans elected in November. That is our goal.”
