Not Giving Up Hope for Hope

Only one application for Hope the Chihuahua has been returned to Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control.

Hope’s journey touched a lot of people on Facebook — each post about the Chihuahua generated shares, likes and comments well into the hundreds.

But despite all that social interest, only one adoption application has been returned to Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control.

Hope visited the vet recently and her bloodwork results came back Tuesday, August 12. She was originally thought to be 14 but it’s estimated she is eight to 10 years of age.

Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk said Hope tested negative for heartworms and her liver and kidneys are all functioning normally.

“She has an appointment on Monday to get spayed, have her teeth cleaned and have some tumors removed,” he said. “Hopefully that will get her some adoption applications.”
