Parts of Route 196 in East Hampton Closing in May
Here are the dates, times and locations that will be impacted, as well as alternate routes.

From Tuesday May 26, through Sunday May 31, Route 196 will be closed between the following intersections:
- Starr Place and Bevin Boulevard
- Length of Closure: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
East Hampton Police shared the following information via email.
Motorists who plan on traveling in or through East Hampton, CT along Route 196 between Tuesday May 26, 2015 and Sunday May 31, 2015 should anticipate a road closure and potential traffic delays.

Route 196 will be closed between Starr Place and Bevin Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Alternate route for those needing access to Bevin Blvd or Bevin Court:

From the intersection of Rte 66 and Main St.
Travel South on Main St. to the intersection of Main St. and Rte 196
Travel North on Rte 196 to Bevin Blvd.
Alternate route for those needing to access to Starr Place, Bishop Hill or Flanders Road:
From the intersection of Rte 66 and Rte 196
Travel South on Rte 196
Alternate route for those needing access to Watrous Street or Railroad Avenue:
From the intersection of Main St. and Rte 196
Travel South on Main Street to the intersection with Walnut St.
Travel West on Walnut Street to the intersection with Watrous St.
The detour route will be sufficiently marked to aid motorists in their travels, police said.
Those traveling from the west:
Detour begins at Route 66 and Cone Road
LEFT onto Abbey Road
RIGHT onto North Cone Road
RIGHT onto Clark Hill Road
LEFT onto Lake Drive (which turns into Staeth Drive)
Follow Staeth Drive take LEFT onto Route 66
The detour route will be sufficiently marked to aid motorists in their travels.
